When confirming a booking we send you a payment link and when the tour has been paid it is confirmed.
Our cancellation policy is as follows:
– One month or more – no charge,
– One month to two weeks: 25% fee,
– Two weeks to one week: 50% fee,
– Seven days or less: 100% fee
What clothes should I wear?
According to the weather situation, we recommend comfortable sport-or outdoor clothes, good and stabile shoes. Guests cannot carry suitcases, backpacks or big cameras on tours.
Will we be able to ride when the weather is bad?
The weather in Iceland can change fast. We usually review the weather forecast daily and evaluate if it’s safe to go. Possibly we can also reschedule the tour spontaneously and adapt to the weather situation.
Short-term cancellations due to weather conditions that do not affect the safety of the tour cannot be considered.
If there are any conditions (like storms or heavy rain) that could affect the tour operation we keep the right to cancel and a full refund will be issued.
Is there an age limit?
Our minimum age for each participant is 12 years.
It’s not possible to bring toddlers or a new-born with you on the horse due to safety reasons. If you come as a family it is often a good decision to book a private tour so we can fully adapt to your experience level and make sure everyone has a good time.
How can I make a booking?
We take down booking requests via e-mail (info@glacierhorses.is). Please send us name, age, height & weight of each participant so we can match you with the right horse! ☺
You can choose between two tours. It’s also possible to book a private tour so no other people will be added to the group. Also let us know if you prefer to come in the morning (10 am / 14:30 ) or afternoon.
What is the maximum weight?
Our weight limit is 95 kilos. We need to be strict with that, since the Icelandic Horse is rather small (around 1,40 m high) and we only let them carry what they are able to do to remain healthy & happy in the long run.
We also ask our customers to consider their weight-height ratio (BMI) to be somewhere around the medium level. The BMI guideline might maybe not apply to some groups of professional athletes though.
Do you offer tours for experienced riders?
Our tours suit beginners and experienced riders. It’s possible to book a regular (group) tour or a private tour. A private tour is suitable if you look for a customized tour where we can fully adapt to your skills. The group tour is with 7 people at maximum (most often mixed levels) and we always make sure that everyone is comfortable and safe. The tour will therefore be adjusted to the abilities of the group.
Do you offer accommodation?
We don’t offer accommodation but we recommend you to check out the Potatoe Storage Guesthouse in Svínafell or Litla-Hof Guesthouse in Hof which are both nearby. There is also a campsite in Svínafell within 5 minutes driving distance as well as the campground in Skaftafell within 10 minutes driving distance.
Am I allowed to ride when I’m pregnant?
You always ride on your own risk and it should be no problem to go horseback riding in the early-early stages of pregnancy. Later on we do not recommend it.
Fitness & safety requirements
We want to introduce some guidelines that should help you to decide if is this is a suitable activity to book:
Horseback riding is a popular outdoor-sport and especially the fascinating surroundings as well as the character of the horses make it quite special. The Icelandic horse is a comparable small horse breed (around 1,40m in average) with usually 5 gaits. Compared to bigger horse breeds, they are often more agile and responsive.
Therefore the riders should have a really good physical condition.
- It’s required to be able to mount the horse independently, also during the ride.
- The sitting position with stretched out legs and micro-movements of the horse can be painful or even not recommended for people with knee or hip issues.
- A good balance will make it easy to follow the horses movement.
- You really do not have to be an athlete, but this activity suits people that e.g. have regular daily-movement, an active lifestyle or in general a good fitness.
Disclaimer:
Under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including mind-altering prescription drugs), lack of physical fitness ability, overweight (obesity) unsuitable clothing for the conditions, improper footwear, physical disability, mental disability, pre-existing medical condition, recent surgery or medical operations do not allow individuals to participate in the tours; no refund can be issued.
